Night Hoops is
a socially themed basketball league for boys and girls 13-17 years
of age usually conducted on Friday and Saturday evenings. Volunteer
coaches receive special training on how to talk to their players
about drugs, alcohol and tobacco in order to convey anti-use
messages to the players during the season. All players and
coaches sign a sportsmanship and anti-drug pledge and recite the
pledge prior to every game. Before or after designated games,
players and coaches are required to attend special workshops that
address smart decision-making and life skills issues.
Operation Night Hoops was
a version of Night Hoops specifically designed for Air Force
Youth Centers that is still seasonally
conducted at a number of youth centers. While the contract to
provide materials and implementation assistance to Air Force
Youth Centers has ended, KSN may still be able to provide technical
support and some materials to centers that request assistance.
